According to Kentucky State Police, Bell County Sheriff Deputy Sean Pursifull was killed following an early morning police chase. Pursifull’s K-9 partner, King also died.

Police say two teenagers drove away from a Harlan County gas station without paying around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. They were chased into Bell County on Ky. Hwy. 119.

Deputy Pursifull was waiting along the shoulder of the highway to assist in the capture of the suspects. Kentucky State Police officials say that the teenage driver hit Pursifull’s cruiser, killing both Pursifull and King.

The teens were treated for minor injuries. They have been charged with murder.
