HARROGATE,Tenn. — Neil Rolen, 31, of Harrogate, Tenn., was pronounced dead at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 29, after being shot by his father in their Harrogate residence Monday evening.

Sgt. Steve Cline, with the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department, was the first to respond to a 911 call at 569 Meadow St. located in Harrogate, Tenn. According to Capt. David Honeycutt, Jackie Rolen, Neil Rolen’s father, made the 911 call telling the operator he had shot his son.

Upon entrance into the home Cline found Neil Rolen unresponsive on the dining room floor. After attempted resuscitation by EMS personnel, Rolen was transported to the Middlesboro ARH emergency room where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff David Ray and Capt. David Honeycutt soon arrived at the residence and began the investigation. After a preliminary investigation Jackie Rolen, 54, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide in the death of his son.

An autopsy performed Wednesday at UT Medical Center showed Rolen’s death was the result of a gunshot wound. Jackie Rolen is currently in the Claiborne County Jail and is being held without bond.

According to Honeycutt, the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
