HIGHSPLINT — Harlan Circuit Court Judge Russell Alred has revoked the bond in the murder case involving former Harlan County Sheriff’s Office special deputy Scott Moore, who was arrested Saturday on a charge of fourth-degree assault by the Kentucky State Police at his residence in Highsplint.

Police responded to a complaint of a disturbance at Moore’s residence just before midnight Friday. Moore was taken into custody around 1:45 a.m. Saturday.

Alred said after he learned what had allegedly transpired Friday night, he signed an order Saturday morning revoking Moore’s bond. Alred said he told Moore during his arraignment to not have any guns.

It was reported that shots were fired at Moore’s property before police arrived regarding a disturbance. No one was reported injured from any gunfire. Moore was charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence, minor injury).

“When I allow a person to be out on bond, I expect them to obey the conditions of the bond,” Alred said. “Mr. Moore will remain in custody until his trial.”

Moore was arraigned and pleaded not guilty on Oct. 24 on a charge of wanton murder for the death of Leslie Cox. He appeared for his pre-trial conference on Dec. 6. The pre-trial conference was rescheduled for Feb. 7, and his trial is set for May 19.

Cox, of Evarts, died July 3 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.

KSP Sgt. Jason Adams said Moore was arrested Saturday by trooper Marcus Williams and was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.

On Saturday night, Moore was reportedly taken from the jail by ambulance and Kentucky State Police escort to Harlan ARH Hospital and admitted after having a seizure. He was still in the hospital at presstime.

According to earlier reports, Moore retired from the Kentucky State Police, where he was employed as a trooper, due to medical reasons.
