Several sentences handed down

PINEVILLE - A number of people have received jail sentences after making an appearance before Bell County Circuit Judge James Bowling.

Anthony J. Carter, 40, of New Tazewell appeared in court and pleaded guilty to first degree fleeing or evading police and was sentenced to one year in prison. Also he received 12 months in the Bell County Jail and fined $500 for his third offense of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, aggravating circumstance. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Robert Lee Hardin, 39, of Middlesboro appeared in circuit court and plead guilty of second degree trafficking in a controlled substance and trafficking in a controlled substance in or near school. Hardin has been sentence to three years in prison for violating the law.

Jonathan Stansbury, 23, Middlesboro pleaded guilty on three different cases. He pleaded guilty to third degree assault and third degree arson in one case. Stansbury was sentenced to serve one year in prison on both charges. Those charges will run concurrently but consecutively with the other two indictments. The second sentencing he received a one year sentence in prison for third degree burglary along with 12 months in the Bell County Jail for third degree criminal mischief and is to pay Chadwell’s Shoe Shop $225 restitution. Those sentences are to run concurrently with each other but consecutively with two other sentencings. In another case, Stansburry was sentenced to three years in prison for third degree burglary and 12 months in the Bell County Jail for third degree criminal mischief. Those sentences are to run concurrently but consecutively with the other two guilty pleas.

Christopher L. Evans, 22, of Middlesboro received sentences in three separate cases. Evans plead guilty to third degree burglary and was sentence to five years in prison and the sentence is to run consecutively with the other two cases. Evans has been sentenced to five years in prison for receiving stolen property, a firearm and the case is to run consecutively with the other two cases. In a third case Evans was sentenced to third degree burglary, second degree attempted burglary and resisting arrest. He was sentenced to three years in prison for third degree burglary along with 12 months in the Bell County Jail for second degree attempted burglary and resisting arrest. Those sentences will run consecutively with the other two sentences.

Bruce Heck, 54, Middlesboro has pleaded guilty to third degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and received a 12 months sentence in the Bell County Jail. He also plead guilty to criminal possession of a forged instrument and sentenced to 12 months in the Bell County Jail. That sentence was probated to serve 24 months unsupervised probation.

Charles E. Riley, 45, of Pineville plead guilty to fourth degree operating a motor vehicle while under the influence; operating a motor vehicle while license is revoked or suspended for driving under the influence and second degree being a persistent felony offender. Riley was sentenced to serve five years in prison on the charges that are to run concurrently with each other and consecutively with two other sentences that occurred in 2004.

John Robert Fuston, 29, of Pineville has been sentenced to three years in prison for first degree possession of a controlled substance; twelve months in the Bell County Jail for resisting arrest.

Amanda Shanklin, 23, of Middlesboro has plead guilty to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence; second degree possession of a controlled substance. She has been sentenced to 90 days in the Bell County Jail on the charges.

Natalie Ward, 22, of Arjay has pleaded guilty to first degree possession of a controlled substance. Ward has been sentenced to five years in prison, but is to actually serve 90 days in the Bell County Jail. She is to be placed on supervised probation for the balance of the five year sentence.

Kermit D. Williams, 28, of Middlesboro has been sentenced in three different cases. Williams plead guilty to second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument along with theft by deception over $300 and has been sentenced to serve two years in prison for both charges. That sentence is to run concurrently but run consecutively with the other two guilty pleas. Williams also plead guilty to second degree trafficking in a controlled substance and sentenced to three in prison. For second degree trafficking in a controlled substance he was sentenced to 12 months in the Bell County Jail. That sentence is to run concurrently with two other charges. The third sentence was for trafficking in a controlled substance in or near a school. He is to serve two years in prison for that guilty plea. The sentence is also to run concurrently with the other two convictions.
