Ball, who was seeking another term on the council in the upcoming general election, had been a battling a serious illness at UK for several days. At Tuesday’s meeting, Mayor Ben Hickman and Ball’s fellow council members observed a moment of silence in Ball’s honor.
In addition to serving on the Council, he was active with the Middlesboro Kiwanis Club, and RoHo. He had also owned and operated Tom’s Food for many years before his retirement.
Included among his survivors are his three children, Randolph Ball, Carabeth Ball Williamson, and William Baylor Ball; and his companion, Sue Cline.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, where he was a long time member. Visitation, which will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, will also be held at the church.
