PINEVILLE — Pine Mountain State Resort Park is gearing up for the annual Kentucky Writer’s Workshop, to be held in March.

This unique event is an information-packed retreat for aspiring writers, according to Dean Henson, Park Naturalist.

“The workshop explores techniques and methods for improving your writing ability and will feature up-close instruction and personal tips from renowned Kentucky authors,” he said. “Whether you’re a poet, novelist, essayist, or short-story writer, you’re sure to depart the workshop with new energy and ideas for taking your writing to the next level!”

Participants should bring an excerpt of their work for the Your Turn session, he added.

This year’s workshop will present novelist Gwyn Hyman Rubio, the author of the New York Times Bestseller, Icy Sparks, and Oprah’s Book Club Selection, The Woodsman’s Daughter.

The event will also feature Kentucky Poet, Lynnell Edwards, the author of The Highwayman’s Wife, and The Farmer’s Daughter. She received a 2007 Al Smith Fellowship from the Kentucky Arts Council.

Western Kentucky Author, Cora Seaman, author of Emily’s Quest and Keeping the Promise, and a founding member of the Midwest Writer’s Guild, will also appear.

For those who would like to bring someone along who won’t be participating in the workshop, it is no problem, according to Henson.

“Because the park is located in the tri-state area of Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia, there is a virtual treasure-trove of things to do,” he said. “They can visit Tennessee’s Abraham Lincoln Museum, Virginia’s Wilderness Road State Park, Kentucky’s Blanton Forest, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, Cumberland Falls, or enjoy hiking and photography along any of 14 trails maintained by the park.

A special, all-inclusive event package is available, and information is available from the lodge at (606) 337-3066. The fee for non-package participation is $30.00 per person. The fee is waived for those electing to take the event package. Non-package participants may register in advance, and lodge reservations must be made separately.
