Dalton Simpson kept the Tigers at bay for three plus innings, but some control problems and a couple of costly errors helped Knox Central pull away for a 10-0 win.
Simpson was perfect through two innings. Jordan Brown led off the Tiger third inning with a single and stole second and third. Simpson got two outs in the meantime and walked Andy Mitchell. Mitchell stole second and an error allowed two runs to score at Central took a 2-0 lead.
Pineville threatened in the top of the fourth as Jarrod Nunnelly and Jared Jeffrey delivered back-to-back singles with two outs, but Mitchell got a ground ball to end the inning.
With one out in the fourth innng, Tyler Gilbert reached on an error. Two wild pitches, a hit batter and three walks later, Corey Smith single scored Corey Williamson and the Panther lead swelled to six runs.
Three walks and three errors helped Knox Central score four more in the fifth to end the game.
Simpson gave up just four hits and only one earned run to take the loss for Pineville. Jon Widener finished up on the mound and also beat out an infield single for the Lions in the fifth inning.
Pineville ends the season with a record of 5-15. Knox Central (17-10) advances to face Barbourville in the district championship game today at 6 p.m. The Tigers defeated Lynn Camp 10-7 in the other semifinal Monday.
