Middlesboro BPOE awards scholarships to two MHS students

Middlesboro Lodge #119 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (pictured in center is Elks Lodge President, Michael Taylor) annually awards a total of $3,000 in scholarships to two graduating seniors from Middlesboro High School, $1,500 each to a boy and a girl.

Students are selected by a committe of professionals at the school. This year's recipients are Lindsey Weaver (left) and Akash Patel (right).

Weaver is the daughter of Jennifer Garren. She plans to attend Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.

Patel is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Nitin K. Patel. He will enroll at Emory College in Atlanta, Georgia. Both plan to study pre-med.
