Bruce Greer of Little Sycamore was shot while riding a four-wheeler near his neighbors house. Greer and his neighbor, John Boyd Collett, age 37, of Claiborne County, argued earlier about the death of Greer’s dog and Collett allegedly shot Greer with a 9mm pistol, five different times.
Greer was flown by Lifestar to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, from the Claiborne County Hospital. Greer was pronounced dead in the Knoxville, Tenn. hospital.
An autopsy was performed on Thursday that revealed that Greer died of multiple gunshot wounds.
John Boyde Collett was taken into custody shortly after the shooting occurred. He was charged with criminal homicide, and was arraigned before General Sessions Judge Robert Estep on Thursday.
Also on Wednesday, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in the Sandlick Community of Claiborne County where Jeffrey Taylor was found stabbed multiple times and was immediately transported to the Uninversity of Tennessee Medical Center.
Larnie Wayne King, age 55, who lives at the same residence, was taken into custody following the stabbing. King was charged with violation of probation on old outstanding warrants, but was not charged with the crime. This investigation is ongoing while King is presently lodged in the Claiborne County Jail. Sheriff David Ray says King is a person of interest in the assault/ attempted murder.
The Sheriff’s office also executed a search warrant at the residence of Doyle Wayne Russell, 662 Greasy Hollow Road, in the Speedwell Community of Claiborne County on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 6 p.m. This drug bust was the result of a several-month long investigation.
Sheriff David Ray and Captain David Honeycutt along with the Claiborne County Tactical Unit — surrounded the residence. Several prescription drugs including Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, and Xanax were found and seized, along with approximately 17 marijuana plants growing behind the home. Approximately $2,500 in cash and four fire arms were also seized.
Russell was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of drugs for resale and was charged with growing marijuana.
The defendant remains in the Claiborne County Jail awaiting his arraignment in the General Sessions Court.
