MIDDLESBORO — Dan J. Cox, Sr., 65, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at his home.

He was born on August 11, 1943, in Stoney Fork, the son of the late Jesse and Goldie Helton Cox.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Jet and John L. Cox; sister, Marie Cox Caldwell; sister-in-law, Faith A. Jean Brock; niece, Tina Janell Brock; nephew, John Kevin Brock; brother-in-law, Sol Saylor;and mothers-in-law, Jewell M. Perry and Lois Clarkson.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Tamasa Anne Cox of Middlesboro; sons, Daniel Joseph Cox Jr. and Anita of Middlesboro, John L. Cox of Middlesboro, Odell Bailey of Tennessee, Grant Irving Cox of West Virginia; daughters, Jackie Clarkson of Bowling Green, Ky., and Louise Renee Cox of Middlesboro; grandchildren, Daniel Jesse and James Joseph Cox, Kimberly Danna Jewell Cox, Hannah Dakota Joan Cox, Kevin Cox, Cynthia Bailey, Taylor, Tiffany and Brandy Ayers, Chris Mills; sisters, Phronia Saylor of Kettle Island, Berthie and Sol Caldwell of Stoney Fork, Nellie and ZB Brock of Stoney Fork; his first wife and friend, Belva Cox Davis; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and very special caregivers and supporters, Stella Caldwell Wilder (niece), Kale Caldwell (nephew) Belva Joan Cox Davis (first wife) and Anita Ayers (daughter-in-law); special friends, Tony Wilder, Fred Sloan, Jo and Wayne Smith, Mark Smith, Charles Lee Upton, Letcher Cox and Roger Sizemore.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Walzer, the Rev. George Neal and the Rev. Don Messer presiding. Music will be by Fred Slone, Kathy Brock and Steve Hensley; and the staff at Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Burial will be in the Caldwell-Cox Cemetery at Stoney Fork. Pallbearers will be Danny Joe Cox Jr., John L. Cox, Dewayne Smith, Jesse Cox, Joseph Cox and Charles Lee Upton.
