Lady Cats first, Bell boys 2nd at SEKC meet

LOG MOUNTAIN — The Bell County girls placed first overall while the Bobcat boys took second Tuesday at the SEKC cross country meet.

In the girls race, Lady Cat Kelly Brown was the individual winner with a time of 22:26.10. Teammate Jamie Collins was second, running the Bell home course in 22:53.29.

Knox Central’s Megan McDonald was third, nearly a full minute behind, with Bell’s Caitlin Gibson and Brittany Collins placing fourth and fifth.

Harlan’s Hayley Helton was sixth followed by Lady Cat senior Brittany Rutherford. Katherine Woods of Bell placed 11th.

Middlesboro’s top girls finisher was Alexis Thomas who placed 20th with a time of 33:05.01. Lady Jacket teammates Shayna Beth Lawson and Amber Ray were 21st and 22nd.

In the boys race, fresham James Brown of Bell County was the individaul winner in a time of 17:24.34. Bobcat senior Cody Saylor was second at 19:03.08.

Knox Central’s Devin Edwards, Bradley Smith and Chase Rose took the next three spots with Bell’s Chris Baker sixth.

Zak Walker and Josh Tuttle of Knox were 7th and 8th as the Panthers took first place in the team standings.

Bell’s Ben Collett and Quintin Fletcher were 14th and 15th while teammate Matthew Elliott was 17th as the Bobcats placed second as a team.

Also competing for Bell were Nathan Tanner and Anthony Saylor.

Middlesboro’s top runner was Aaron Bevins who finished 19th in a time of 22:24.95.

Other Jackets competing were Chris Collett (31st), Mattew Owens (36th), Josh White (38th), Brian Cole (40th), Logan Carter, Nathan Dubin, Chris Leach, Dalton Moyers, Matthew Adkins, and Craig Smith.

Middlesboro was fifth in the team standings.
