AT&T Inc. offering $2,000 reward for info. leading to arrest and conviction of vandals

PINEVILLE — AT&T Inc. recently announced their offer of a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the recent vandalism of AT&T copper telephone cables in Pineville. The steady rise in the price of copper has led some people to take extreme measures, including stealing copper cables from houses and telephone poles.

AT&T is working with law enforcement agencies in Pineville and Bell County; as well as with scrap-metal dealers to catch those responsible for the thefts. AT&T urges shop owners, employees and anyone with information on the recent copper thefts to call AT&T Asset Protection at 1-800-807-4205.

The $2,000 will be awarded to any individual that provides information which leads to the arrest or conviction of people involved. A reward will not be paid unless an arrest is made; the offer expires Dec. 31, 2008.

It is a felony under federal law to tamper with phone lines that the public uses to place emergency calls or to request emergency assistance.

“AT&T is taking this matter very seriously,” said David McFaddin, AT&T Kentucky regional manager, legislative and external affairs. “We are working with local law enforcement to ensure that those responsible for the crimes are apprehended and punished. We think the reward will motivate people with information to come forward.”
