Junior shooting guard, Mitchell Mayes came out firing and hit two early threes in the first quarter to get the Bobcats rolling. Bell County also got baskets from guard Greg Wilson and centers Seth Chambers and Ryan Cox to take a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Brian Robbins, a junior forward for the Bobcats got into the act in the second quarter with two baskets and a lot of high energy defense. Mayes added another three point basket, Chambers added two put backs, and after a Cody Freeman basket, Bell County held a 28-14 lead at the half.
With the score reset at halftime, the Rockets found new life and gave Bell County a real battle in the second half. The biggest change came in the form a full court press that really gave the Bobcats a lot of trouble. This led to quite a few Bobcat turnovers and easy baskets for Rockcastle County. Rockcastle led after the third quarter 16-12.
Unfortunately no roster was provided for Rockcastle County, and because it was a scrimmage no stats were kept.
The Bobcat duo of Chambers and Robbins staved off the rally by the Rockets, with tenacious rebounding, no-quit defense, and timely shooting. Bell County outscored Rockcastle in both halves led by Wilson, Robbins, and Chambers with 10 points each, and Mayes who finished the night early in the third quarter with 9 points due to an injury. The final score in the second half was Bell County 31, Rockcastle 24.
The Bell County Ladycats also scrimmaged Knox Central High School Monday night. Bell came up short in a tight game losin to Knox Central by a score of 34-31.
