Five people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Claiborne County on Thursday. Two adults and three children were transported by ambulance to Claiborne County Hospital after four, of the five injured, were extracted from one of the vehicles. Traffic was tied up traveling both directions on Highway 33 where the accident occurred. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Trooper Chad Arnwine, it appeared, from witness testimonies, that one vehicle with a single driver was traveling south on Highway 33 when a second car, carrying four individuals, pulled on to Hwy. 33 from Mountain Road. The first vehicle struck the second in the driver’s side. Trooper Arnwine with the THP is investigating the accident. Identities and conditions of the vehicle occupants were not immediately available. The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department, New Tazewell Police Department, Tazewell-New Tazewell Fire Department, South Claiborne Volunteer Department, Claiborne County Rescue Squad, and Claiborne County EMS responded to the scene.
