PINEVILLE — Pineville City Council members decided against appointing someone to take Sherwin Rader’s place on the council at this time. Rader moved into the mayoral office after former Mayor Bob Madon resigned.

Monday night was the last opportunity the council had to appoint someone to fill Rader’s position for the remainder of 2008. The council agreed that the seat would remain vacant this year unless the governor intervenes and appoints someone to the council.

The council suggested that they would appoint someone to the seat in January, and that person would serve the full term that Rader was recently elected for. The new city council must take office before January 1. At 6 p.m. on December 29, councilors will take the oath of office.

Currently, the Pineville City Police department is made up of five people. The department is looking for at least two more.

The council approved a raise for three police officers, although most Police and Fire Department employees will not receive a raise due to budgetary concerns.

The council plans to review the New Wave broadcast surcharge increase that is to become effective in January. Council members have received complaints about the company recently. They want to review the city’s agreement with the company later in the month.
