MIDDLESBORO – Wednesday evening was a busy night for the Middlesboro Fire Department (MFD). Three abandoned houses were caught on fire between the hours of 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., according to Captain Richard Taylor of MFD.

The first fire took place at 5 p.m. on South 31st street. Witnesses claim to have seen individuals running from the scene of the fire.

At 6:30, another fire was set a few blocks from the first fire. Then at 11 a third fire was spotted at an abandonded house on Greenwood road.

It is suspected that at least two of the fires were a result of arson activity. Middlesboro Police Department is investigating the case.
