EAST PINEVILLE — The Lighthouse Mission Center held an open house for their new career training facility Tuesday night.

The Career Training Center is located in the old vocational school building on Old Bell High Road at East Pineville. Office hours are between 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The center will start taking applications on Monday, March 12. Those interested in applying can fill out an application at the center.

The crowd of about 100 people who were at the open house got a chance to tour the new facility, and learn what will be offered at it.

The program is pointed toward the youth and adults that would be considered “at-risk”. That would include those who live in poverty, are unemployed, have been incarcerated, or those who have not been able to get an education in a formal setting.

The mission of the center is to provide a career training center to help repair, restore, and rebuild the lives of at risk youth and adults.

The center will have several hands-on classes for people to take part in. There are plans to have cosmetology classes, carpentry classes, organic gardening, and a retail program. These classes will help in giving students hands-on experience in fields of these kinds.

Programs are also planned to help students learn basic computer skills as well as resume building skills.

The goal of the center is to show God’s love and meet peoples emotional, physical, and spiritual needs, says Lighthouse Mission Center director Sharon Teaney.

“God gave us a vision to build a career center,” said Teaney.

Teaney added that the center is in need of volunteers and donations. Any contribution to the career center can be sent to P.O. Box 511, Pineville, KY 40977. Those interested in volunteering can contact Teaney at the Lighthouse Mission Center at 606-337-1834,or by e-mail at lighthousemissctr@hotmail.com.

The Lighthouse Mission Center, a ministry of Lighthouse Trinity Pentecostal Church, has been in place in Bell County since 2001. It started with a food pantry and clothing room, distributing food, clothing, hygiene and cleaning products, and has now expanded to include a medical clinic, homeless shelter, and now the training center.
