Barger was named Boys Player of the Year after guiding the Panthers to a 24-8 record and a 51st District championship while averaging 19 points per game. This marks the third Player of the Year award Barger has won the past two weeks. He was also named as the 13th Region Boys Coaches Association Player of the Year and the KABC’s 13th Region Player of the Year.
Madden turned in a stellar season for the Lady Tigers by guiding them to a 31-6 record along with winning the 13th Region championship for the fourth straight season. She finished the season with an 18.4 scoring average.
North Laurel coach Brad Sizemore was named Boys Coach of the Year after guiding the Jaguars to their first-ever 13th Region championship and a 21-14 record during first season.
South Laurel freshman Zac Baxter was named Boys Newcomer of the Year. His Cardinals only posted an 11-22 record, but he helped guide South Laurel back to the 13th Region Boys Tournament.
James Burchell was named as the Girls Coach of the Year after guiding his team to an unbeaten record against 13th Region teams for the fourth straight season while Brooklyn Massingill took home Girls Newcomer of the Year honors.
Joining Barger on the First All Media Boys Team are Corbin’s Travis Smith, Harlan County’s Tyler Brewer, North Laurel’s Marcus Carson and Barbourville’s Tanner Broughton.
Second All Media Boys Team members are Clay County’s Tyler McDaniel, Pineville’s John Simpson, South Laurel’s Jeff Hale, Clay County’s Zach McGeorge and Bell County’s Kyle Lee.
