Your opportunity to be a part of the Texaco Country Showdown is almost up. The contest is an opportunity for local singers to compete for a chance to win $100,000.00, if they make it through all levels of competitions.

Entries are still being taken at KAT COUNTRY WFXY/WANO radio in Middlesboro till 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30. After the last entry is received, all contestants will be reviewed by the panel of judges and they will then select seven semi-finalists to compete on Friday, May 25, at the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville. The final two will then perform in the finals on Saturday, May 26. The winner will go on to the state level and compete in the next round.

An open audition was held Friday, April 20, at the Bell Theater. Local radio personality, Frank Smith, was at the open audition and noted the talent in the area.

“The local talent in Bell County and from the surrounding area was simply awesome during the open auditions last Friday night,” said Smith.

Darron Nichols, of the Bell Theater, added, “As far as the talent in the open audition, I was blown away! I am excited that we have this much great talent here in Bell County.”

Several other entries have come in since the open audition and will be added to the list for the judges to review.
