This weekend the Bell County Bobcats came just one point shy of winning the SEKC track meet at the University of the Cumberlands.

Led by seniors James Brown (first place in the 3200 meter, 16oo meter and 800 meter runs, as well as helping the 4x800 meter relay team win that race) and Jacob Johnson (first place in both the shot put and discus throw) the Bell boys totalled 101 points.

Williamsburg pulled out a first place overall finish with 102 points. The main difference was that the Yellow Jackets got 14 points from the pole vault and high jump competitions while Bell County didn’t have an entry in those events. Knox Central was third with 96 points, Corbin fourth with 85, Clay County fifth with 82, Harlan County sixth with 75 and Harlan seventh with seven.

On the girls side the Lady Cats wound up in fourth place with a team total of 83 points. Sophomore Kelly Brown led the with first place finishes in the 3200 and 1600 meter runs, a second place finish in the 800 meter run and teamed with Kaite Mason, Brittany Collins and Lexi Sanders to win the 4x800 meter relay.

Knox Central was first in the team standings with 152 points, Williamsburg second with 138, Corbin third with 95, Bell fourth with 83, Clay County fifth with 51, Harlan County sixth with 14, Lynn Camp seventh with nine and Harlan eighth with two.
