Vestie Maurine Sowders,81 of Middlesboro, passed away Thursday July 12, 2012 at the Middlesboro ARH. She was born October 10, 1930 at Brison, Tenn., a daughter of the late Ewell Oscar and Emma Blackburn Hunter. She believed in the Baptist Faith and was baptized in 1980. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband, Bruce Allen Sowders; son, Ronny Sowders; great great granddaughter, Lilly May Mowen-Byrt; 4 sisters, Cleo Gent, Rutha Mae Hopper, Hazel Ridings , Mandoline Berry; brother, Dewey Hunter.
Survivors include: sons, Kermit Sowders of Middlesboro and Carl Ray and Pat Sowders of Ewing, Va.; daughters, Shirley and Sam Wells of Middlesboro, Brenda and David Capps of Middlesboro, Sue and Connie Hopper of Middlesboro, Sandra Kay and Rufus Irvin of Speedwell, Tenn.; daughters and son-in-law: Donna Faye Sowders of Middlesboro, Lynn Sowders of Middlesboro and Dennis Hardin of Middlesboro; grandchildren, Terry (Lisa) Wells, Lisa (Chris) Brathwait, Kermit Sowders, Leon Sowders, Tessa (George) Stiltner, Aaron (Mary) Sowders, Travis Capps, Eddie Capps, Amy (Mitch) Evans, Kimberley (Jeremy) McLain, Carla Sowders, Cara Sowders, Jay (Jackie) Hopper, James Hopper, Lee (Kristal) Hardin, Amanda (Derek) Bradley, Rufus Irvin II, and Kelsey Irvin; 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; special friends, Donna Kaye Honeycutt, Sharon Mike and Charlene Heck; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services was held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Padgett and Josh Hawk presiding. Music by: Rev. Mike Padgett, Dakota Heck and Kendra. Interment was at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hurst Cemetery. Pallbearers were the grandsons. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Creech Funeral Home.
