Tazewell Speedway will host the final race of the Ray Cook promoted Schaeffer Oil Southern National Series on Saturday. The 10-race in 13 nights tour will conclude its schedule with a 53-lap, $5,300 to win race at the 1/3-mile, high-banked track. The race will also decide this year’s Southern Nationals championship.
This year’s edition of the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals has been one of the most hotly contested since the series started eight years ago. Heading into the final week of the tour, defending series champion Chris Madden, Mike Marlar, Billy Ogle Jr., Vic Hill, and Kenny Compton Jr. are all within shot of the series title. Hill is the defending race winner, but Madden, Marlar, and Ogle all have Tazewell Speedway wins under their belts as well.
All the drivers chasing points for the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals will also have to do battle with some of the area’s top drivers. Dillon Wood, Donald Bradsher, Chad Ogle, Jeff Wolfenbarger, Jason Trammell, and Steve Smith are some of the drivers expected at Tazewell Speedway this Saturday night.
Also racing on Saturday will be the modified streets, pure streets, and classic cars.
General admission tickets are $20 for adults with kids 10 and under admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes are $30. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. Racing will start at 7:45.
