Staff Report

Yet another vacant house fire occurred on Saturday in Middlesboro. The house was located on 23rd and Rochester. According to fire chief Tim Wilder, the house was abandoned for years. Wilder stated he believes this fire is a result of arson.

Wilder said this is approximately the ninth abandoned house fire in two months. The department responded to one house three times during that time-frame.

In the spring, two juveniles and one adult were arrested in two vacant house fires near the Parker Lane area of Middlesboro. Wilder said he does not believe the house fires are connected.

A month ago, the fire department had to respond to a house fire in Queensbury Heights. The house had been set on fire once before in January.

Wilder urges people to call him at 242-2332 or the Middlesboro Police Department at 248-3636 if they have any information regarding the vacant house fires.

Individuals can also call 1-800-27-arson (27766) with information. There is a $1,000 reward for people that gives information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Wilder also asks people to call if they see people around vacant houses acting suspicious.
