The Jason Griffey trial was set to begin on Tuesday but was postponed.
Griffey, 29 of Middlesboro, has recently been at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center to have a competency evaluation. He has just returned from the evaluation.
Griffey will have a competency hearing at 10:30 a.m. on Aug.24. A new jury trial date will be determined at a later date following the hearing.
Griffey was indicted on 11 counts of first-degree sodomy, seven counts of first-degree sexual abuse and nine counts of first-degree criminal attempt to commit sexual abuse. All of the alleged victims in the case are boys under the age of 12.
Griffey was originally arrested on Oct. 14 for just the 11 counts of sodomy. He was charged with sexual abuse and criminal attempt to commit sexual abuse following investigation. Officer Josh Pratt of the Middlesboro Police Department was the man that arrested Griffey.
Griffey was employed by Terminix as a pest exterminator prior to his arrest. In that capacity, the suspect has visited homes and commercial buildings in Bell and Harlan counties.
According to Middlesboro Police Chief Jeff Sharpe, none of the alleged incidents involving Griffey are characterized as workplace-related. He also stated that the Middlesboro Police Department has not received any complaints concerning Griffey from agencies in other counties.
According to the Bell County Detention Center website, Griffey remains in custody at the detention center. He currently has a $500,000 cash bond.
