Jim R. “Fox” Washam, age 82 of Flat Lick, died on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.
Born on May 9, 1930, in Knox County, he was the son of the late Proctor and Mary Ellen Payne Washam. Mr. Washam was of the Holiness Faith. On Sept. 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Martha Jackson Washam and to this union seven children were born. He had worked for the City of Pineville in the sanitation department, as a janitor at Pineville High School, for the rail road and the forestry service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny P. Washam, Herb Washam and Virgil Washam; sisters, Roberta Lasure and Alice Spencer; grandchildren, Bobby Washam Jr., Amy Lawson, Kenneth Lawson and Kevin Lawson; great-grandchild, Micheal Hobbs.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Martha Jackson Washam of Flat Lick; children, Mary Philpot and husband Sonny of Pineville, James “Jamie” Washam and wife Lisa of Flat Lick, Bobby Washam and wife Sarah of Flat Lick, Janice Grubb and husband Curt of Flat Lick, Billy Washam of Flat Lick, Alice Lawson and husband,Ken of Barbourville and David Washam and girl friend Christina Asher of Flat Lick; 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lonzo Messer, the Rev. Billy Philpot and Deacon Wally Washam presiding.
Burial will be in the Hammond Cemetery at Flat Lick . Pallbearers will be Eric Washam, Jeff Washam, George Sizemore, Heath Washam, J.J. Washam, Randall Rice, J.C. Grubb, Bradley Washam, Dereck Lawson, Cody Gray and Anthony Gambrel.
