The MHS boys golf team came away wit two more victories Thursday as they topped Lee High, Va., and the J. Frank White Academy in a tri-match at Middlesboro County Club. The Jackets posted a solid score of 166 to come out on top.
Middlesboro was led by senior co-captain Michael Wilson with a 3-over-par 39. Other scores for the Jackets were Eric Francis with a 41, Micah Robbins and Luke Boyd posted rounds of 43, and J.P. Maiden shot 47.
Lee High posted a team total of 211 to finish second. The Generals were led by Sam Scott’s 48. J. Frank White had a team total of 247 to finish third. The Knights were led in scoring by Talton Dunn who carded a 55.
“We were pretty solid today, not a bad team total. We had a few guys get off to a bad start, but they hung in there and finished their rounds off to post a decent score,” Jacket caoch Greg Lasley said. “That is what you have to be able to do in this game, hang in there and keep battling till the end.”
Middlesboro now stands at 22-5 for the season and will return to action on Monday as they play host to Barbourville and Knox Central in a conference match. On Thursday the Jackets will travel to Wasioto Winds to take on Pineville and Bell County.
