Sandra Arthur Morgan of Wilmington, Del., along with her son Charles, recently toured Middlesboro, which was founded by her great-grandfather, Alexander A. Arthur.
While in the city, they visited the Bell County Museum, located in the Carnegie Library building, which Ms. Morgan’s grandfather, P.M. Arthur, helped to build. She and her son were particularly interested in the exhibit of furniture and artifacts from the Booneway Hotel (originally called The Middlesborough). Ms. Morgan’s great-grandparents lived there during the town’s earliest days and later the widowed Nellie Arthur made it her home.
They also visited the Arthur Museum, located in the American Association Building, in which are displayed many family treasures donated to the city by Ms. Morgan’s father, Alexander A. Arthur II.
The Bell County Historical Society Museum, open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is located at 207 North 20th street in Middlesboro.
For more information about the museum or its exhibits call 606-242-0005.
