The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Claiborne County was held Friday at Harrogate City Park. The event raised over $150,000 for cancer research and programs to assist patients and their families.
Over 30 teams from the community participated and have been raising money throughout the year. Relay For Life is a time to honor survivors and celebrate the memories of those lost to the disease.
By staying at the park throughout the night, teams showed support for patients and their struggle through the darkness of cancer to find daylight again.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of Relay For Life in Claiborne County with over $1 million raised over the years.
During the event, teams were set up around the track with booths to raise money. There was something for all ages including, food, drinks, crafts, games and more. There were several means of entertainment as well.
Relay For Life is a fundraising event in which individuals and teams of participants in nearly 5,100 communities nationwide walk around a track overnight to celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved one lost, and commit to fight back against the disease.
The money raised through Relay For Life supports the American Cancer Society’s efforts to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. The Luminaria Ceremony was held at dark to honor the memory of those lost to cancer and honor those who have survived.
