Ray Terrell Milwee, born Jan. 25, 1938, in Harlan County, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at the home of his daughter, Melinda Dempsey in Wharton, Texas at the age of 74.
He was an Air Force veteran who loved to build, leading to a career in construction. He had previously lived in Ohio and Florida before journeying to Texas. Later in life, he enjoyed traveling and gardening. He was a strong spirited loving man who defied all of the physical restraints brought on by a stroke 23 years prior.
He professed Christ and joined VanHuss Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Milwee and LuCretia Milwee Ball; step-father, Charlie Ball; two sisters, Mary Emily Milwee (infant) and Lillian Ball. Ray also lost his wife of 52 years, Mary Lorene Milwee, his beloved “Cookie” in 2009.
Surviving are his five children, David Milwee of Shepherd, Texas, Carrie McSween of Shepherd, Texas, Melissa Burks of Katy, Texas, Melinda Dempsey of Wharton, Texas and Melanie Castillo of Ciboto, Texas; two brothers, Harold Milwee of Rose Hill, Va., and Donald Milwee of Groveland, Fla.; three sisters, Rosa Collins of Ewing, Va., Shirley Howard of Ewing, Va., and Margaret (Peggy) Givens of Lincoln, Ala.; one step-sister, Sarah Ball Lee of Baltimore, Md. Ray was a loving grandfather to 12 surviving grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his best canine friend, Bummer.
Visitation was Wednesday, Aug. 22, with funeral services on Thursday at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland, Texas. Burial was in Wharton, Texas.
