James C. “Jimmy” Dotson, age 66 of Middlesboro, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2015, at his home.
He was born May 22, 1946, in Hampton, Va., and was the son of the late Cliff and Lou Evans Dotson. He was veteran of the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of first lieutenant. Jimmy had been the owner and operator of Dotson Truck Repair, Inc. since 1985. His passion was racing his Buick Grand National where he was known to his fellow drivers as “Underdog”. Jimmy was always admired and respected amongst his fellow racers. He was a proud member of the Buick GSCA.
He is survived by the following members of his family: his wife of 43 years, Joyce Dotson of Middlesboro; three children, Kim Dotson Honeycutt and husband Jason of Middlesboro, Becky Dotson Dean and husband Jared of Hampton, Ga., and Christopher Dotson of Middlesboro; grandchildren, Zachary James Dean, Emily Grace Dean and Brady Estpent Honeycutt; one sister, Nancy Lou (Steve) Ely of Barboursville, W.Va.; nephew, Jason Todd Ely; niece, Stephanie Ely; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Creech Funeral Home with Dr. William Boyd Bingham and Garry Bingham presiding. Music will be provided by Thomasa Risner.
Entombment services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Green Hills Mausoleum with military honors. Pallbearers will be Christopher Dotson, Curt Sams, Larry Brooks, George Wilkerson, Nelson Bingham and Granville Howerton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Buick GSCA.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Creech Funeral Home.
