Lady ‘Splitters take 2nd in Myrtle Beach

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. — The Lincoln Memorial University women’s golf team earned their second-consecutive runner-up finish and third top-five finish of the 2012-13 season with a second-place run at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate. Play was completed on Tuesday afternoon at the Willard Byrd Course on Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach, North Carolina.

The Lady Railsplitters fired two-day splits of 306 and 307 to finish with a total of 613, 21 strokes off the pace set by tournament champions Saint Leo University. The Lions notched rounds of 291 and 301 to capture the title. Tusculum (632), Wingate (635) and Queens (637) rounded out the top-five.

Whitney Ball led the Lady Railsplitters with rounds of 75 and 73 to finish with a four-over total of 148, earning a third-place finish and All-Tournament honors. Brittany McCown earned another top-ten finish with rounds of 74 and 75 to finish with 149 for the two days.

Brandy VanEtten tallied outings of 79 and 77 to finish in a tie for 15th, while Desta Coaker grabbed a tie for 24th with splits of 78-82. Mercedes Smith completed team-play for LMU with rounds of 80 and 82.

Lindsay Davis earned a 35th place finish with rounds of 84 and 81 competing as an individual. Meagan Rutter also competed as an individual, earning a tie for 40th place.

Tusculum’s Jillian Corum took medalist honors with a one-over total of 145, as she posted rounds of 72 and 73 to take the crown.

The Lady Railsplitters complete their fall schedule on October 15th, as they open play at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, North Carolina.
