SAVANNAH, Ga. — Lincoln Memorial University senior middle blocker Blaire Fowler continued to rake in honors for the 2012 season, as she was named to the Daktronics/CoSIDA All-Southeast Region Second Team, officials announced Tuesday morning.
Fowler will add this honor to a resume that includes 2012 All-South Atlantic Conference First Team and 2012 AVCA All-Southeast Region First Team. She was also an All-SAC First Team selection in 2011 as well as a Daktronics All-Southeast Region Second Team pick that same year.
Blaire, 5’9” middle blocker hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, has been the leader of a Lady Railsplitter squad that currently sits at 21-13 overall and earned the program’s fifth-consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament (second under the direction of head coach Jenny Michael).
Fowler has started in all 34 matches for the Lady Railsplitters this season and appeared in every one of the 127 sets, leading the way offensively with 462 kills, 3.64 kills per set and a .302 attack percentage. She ranks second in the South Atlantic Conference in total kills while ranking third in hitting percentage and kills per set. Fowler has also been a stable force for the Lady Railsplitters defensively, leading the team in digs (384) and ranking second on the squad in digs per set (3.02). At the net, Blaire set the standard for LMU with a team-leading 88 blocks, which places her fifth in the South Atlantic Conference. Her resume is bolstered by a league-leading 545.5 total points and a third-place 4.3 points per set.
Blaire topped the ten-kill mark in 25 of the Lady Railsplitters’ 34 matches with at least 15 kills in 11 contests. She is currently riding a streak of double-digit kills in 12 of the last 14 matches. She has also tallied double-figure digs in 20 games this season with double-doubles in 18 of those outings. She has recorded a double-double in seven of the last nine matches, highlighted by a 27-kill, 14-dig outing in a four-set victory over Catawba College in the regular-season finale, marked by a .556 attack percentage. With 27 kills in that match, Fowler set the all-time single match record for kills at Lincoln Memorial in the rally scoring era. That performance was four days removed from a 25-kill, 17-dig effort against the Carson-Newman Eagles.
Her resume also boast a 21-kill, 19-dig performance in a four-set victory over Tusculum College at Mary E. Mars Gymnasium as well as another monster effort against Ouachita Baptist (23 kills, 15 digs). Fowler hit above .400 percent in 10 matches this season, with an eye-popping .680 attack percentage against Anderson University standing out most clearly.
Fowler’s 2012 season will be recorded as one of the most statistically impressive in the history of Lincoln Memorial volleyball, as she ranks fourth on the all-time single season list at LMU in kills per set (3.64) while ranking fourth in kills (462), eighth in attack attempts (1,101) and attack percentage (.302), fourth for points (545.5) and fifth for sets played (127).
Her name can also be found throughout the all-time career record book at LMU despite only playing three seasons for the Lady Railsplitters. Fowler ranks seventh all-time in kills (1,079), sixth in kills per set (3.17), eighth in attack attempts (2,540), fourth in attack percentage (.298), seventh in points (1,304.0) and fifth in points per set (3.84).
The Lady Railsplitters are primed to make the trek to Savannah, Georgia for the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament, slated to begin on Thursday. By virtue of their 21-13 finish, LMU earned the No. 5 seed for the NCAA Tournament which pits them against No. 4 Tusculum College. The Pioneers finished 22-7 this season and hold a slight 2-1 edge over the Lady Railsplitters in the season series. That match is set to tip on the campus of Armstrong Atlantic State University at 5 p.m.
