A Middlesboro man was arrested for receiving more than $40,000 in stolen checks.

Daniel Lee Farrington Jr. was arrested by Middlesboro police officer Justin Barton and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

According to the arrest citation, Farrington has been using the stolen checks since November 2011 and cashing them at several locations. Farrington allegedly stole the checks from his employer.

According to the citation, 173 checks have been accounted for, while several more remain missing.

Farrington remains in custody at the Bell County Detention Center.

In other police news, two Middlesboro residents were arrested on first-degree possession and marijuana charges on Tuesday. Jason Messer, 29, and Emily Crawford, 21, were arrested at their home.

According to the arrest citation, Middlesboro Police Officer Barry Cowan arrived at the residence after a package with an overwhelming marijuana smell was delivered to Messer and Crawford’s residence.

The citation states there was allegedly a container with marijuana in the house. As a result of a residential search, a blue round tablet marked A1215 was allegedly found in the top drawer of the chest.

According to the citation, both Crawford and Messer stated they lived at the residence. Both individuals were released on Wednesday.

In another report, a Middlesboro man was arrested for burglary on Tuesday.

Timothy Marroquin, 18, was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary. He allegedly took a flat-screen television, desk-top computer and a Toshiba laptop computer from the victim.

He remained in custody at the detention center late Wednesday.
