Carl Town from Waste Connections was present during the 109 Board meeting on Wednesday. The board had problems in the past with receiving documentation and payments from Waste Connections in regards to the bypass fees. Bypass fees are placed on anything that bypasses the transfer station that the solid waste center won’t or can’t accept.

The board did not receive documentation for the bypass fees from August 2010 to February of this year. In February, the board received a bypass payment but no documentation.

A letter was sent to Waste Connections from 109 Board attorney Henry Lawson stating they would withhold payments to the company until documentation was received.

The documentation is suppose to include the date the truck bypassed the transfer station, location where the garbage was collected, destination where the garbage is taken and a copy of the weigh ticket documenting the weight of the garbage not delivered to the transfer station.

Originally, the board gave Waste Connections 30 days to respond to the letter. During the meeting, Town asked the board for 30 more days.

“I apologize that you have not been getting the reports,” said Town.

Town said he will get all the proper documentation for the board by the next meeting if he could have the 30-day extension.

“I will pull the tonnage myself to get this done for you,” said Town.

Town promised once all documentation is caught up, Waste Connections will have the reports ready each month.

Following Town’s speech, the board agreed to give Waste Connections the additional 30 days to get the proper documentation. The board also stated they will continue to withhold payments to Waste Connections until they receive all the documentation requested.
