VFW POST 10310 Gibson Station, Va., will host a New Year’s party featuring Southern Steel Band and catered food. The cost is $25 per couple or $15 single. Food will be served at 7 p.m. The band will begin at 8 p.m. To make a reservation, call 276-861-3216 after 5 p.m.

JACK SMITH will be at the National Guard Armory in Middlesboro the second Wednesday of each month to help veterans file claims.

FREE RAT BAIT is available at the Bell County Cooperative Extension Service (located in the basement of the Bell County Courthouse in Pineville) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Rat Bait Program is sponsored by the Bell County Farm Bureau and the Bell County Cooperative Extension Service. DONATIONS ARE NEEDED for all ages. Secret Santa needs your help for local families for the holidays. Donations of food, clothing, toys, baby items and household items are needed. The items must be new. Cash donations are also accepted. Drop items off at The Olde Mill Inn B&B (water wheel) in Cumberland Gap or call 423-300-8225 for a pick up.

LIGHTHOUSE LIFELINE OF BELL COUNTY support group sessions will be held every Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. with refreshments/services and support group sessions from 6-7:30 p.m. Support group sessions will be from 1-2:30 p.m. every Thursday. Sessions will be held at the Lighthouse Career Training Center, located at 980 Old Bell High Road, off of U.S. 119. Sessions are free and workbooks are optional. Everyone is welcome. Sessions include: Insight, identifying life-controlling issues — 9 weeks; stepping into freedom, 12 Steps — 13 weeks; and anger management — 9 weeks. BENCHMARK FAMILY SERVICES/FOSTER CARE (located in Falls Plaza in Corbin) offers free orientation classes. If you are interested in information on becoming a foster parent, come to orientation any Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. Benchmark serves Harlan, Bell, Knox, Laurel and Whitley Counties.

FREE CHRISTMAS GIFT BOXES will be given to all children ages 2 to 12 who attend Sunday services at Bright Star Baptist Church on any Sunday in November or December. Gifts are broken down by age and gender so your child will get something they really like. Christmas gift boxes are free and available for attending the 9:30 a.m. service or the 6 p.m. service. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bright Star Baptist Church is located off West Cumberland Avenue three miles from U.S. 25E. FIRST BAPTIST LIVE NATIVITY will be from 7-9 p.m. today on the front lawn of the First Baptist Church, located on West Cumberland Avenue in Middlesboro. The nativity will include live animals. Hot spiced cider will be served.

The BELL COUNTY Board of Education District Facility Planning Committee meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 at the Bell County Board of Education, located at 211 Virginia Avenue in Pineville.

The MIDDLESBORO PRIMARY COUNCIL will have a special called meeting at 5 p.m. on Dec. 18 in the Middlesboro Primary School library. The agenda will include schedules.

NEWTOWN BAPTIST CHURCH, located approximately 1/4 mile from Pineville in Newtown on Highway 66, will have a Live Nativity from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 19.

A FESTIVAL OF LESSONS & CAROLS will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 19 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, located next to city hall in Middlesboro at 131 Edgewood Road. The event is free and all are welcome.

The BOARD OF DIRECTORS of Kentucky Mountain Housing Development Corporation Inc. (KMHDC) will meet at 1 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the office, located at 113 Main Street in Manchester. Kentucky Mountain Housing is an equal housing opportunity provider.

The annual CHRISTMAS SERVICE at The Church of the True Living God of Holiness will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 21. The play will be presented by the Sunday School children. Everyone is welcome to attend.

HARROGATE CHRISTIAN TABERNACLE, located at 332 Arthur Road in Arthur, Tenn., will present “The X Factor is Christ” beginning at 6 p.m. on Dec. 22.

GATES OF HEAVEN, a Christmas play, will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 22 at Calvary Baptist Church in Tipprell, Tenn. Everyone is welcome to attend.

DEC. 23

MT. GILEAD BAPTIST CHURCH will present “The Case of the Missing Meaning,” a Christmas play, at 6 p.m. on Dec. 23. Children will present the nativity scene. Everyone is welcome to attend.

INDIAN CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH will host a Christmas program, “Conversation in Heaven and The Reason for Christmas,” beginning at 6 p.m. on Dec. 23. There will also be a special visit from Santa. Everyone is welcome to attend.

DEC. 24

The FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, located at 231 North 20th Street, will have Bethlehem’s most famous innkeeper at 5 p.m. on Dec. 24 in the church sanctuary. Everyone is invited to attend.

JAN. 8

TEAM UP 4 HEALTH will present the free 2013 Fitness Fair from 5-7 p.m. on Jan. 8 at the Middlesboro Community Center, located on 30th Street. The second annual fair is free of charge and open to the public. The Fitness Fair will feature several 10 minute demos. The scheduled is: Karate demo at 5 p.m., Tri-State Free Style Martial Arts; Zumba at 5:15 p.m., Saretta Epperson; Cardio Stix at 5:30 p.m., JoAnna Foley; dance demo at 5:45 p.m., Pine Mountain Dancers; Jazzercise at 6 p.m., Raina Fullard; Zumba at 6:15 p.m., Kristina Hudson; and a yoga/restorative yoga demo at 6:30 p.m., Yoga with Betty. Register at the entrance for your chance to win fitness prizes. Prizes will be awarded between each fitness demo. You must be present to claim your prize. The grand prize will be awarded at 7 p.m. Information tables will also be set up throughout the fair.

BASKETWEAVING CLASSES will begin at the Harrogate Senior Citizens Center on the third Thursday of each month beginning Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. The cost for the first basket (long tool or window) will be $42 including materials. Pay is in advance. To register, call 423-869-8080.

An ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE presentation entitled “The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s” will be from 10:45-11:45 a.m. on Jan. 23 at the Corbin Senior Center, located at 409 Barbourville Street in Corbin.
