A Middlesboro man was arrested on theft charges Saturday for stealing copper belonging to AT&T.
Tommy Lee Upton, 36, was arrested by officer Justin Barton of the Middlesboro Police Department on a charge of theft by unlawful taking over $500.
According to the arrest citation, Upton allegedly took 120 pounds of copper from AT&T on Oct. 25 with the intent to deprive the company.
Upton was arrested on KY 74 near Hensley’s Church.
In addition, he was arrested on several bench warrants as well.
Upton was charged with being a fugitive after police learned he was wanted by the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee.
Efforts to contact the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office for details on the fugitive charge were unsuccessful on Monday.
Upton remained in custody at the Bell County Detention Center late Monday.
