A man accused of committing sexual abuse and sodomy on a minor pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Bobby Akers, 22 of Middlesboro, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree sodomy.
Akers’ trial was scheduled to begin on Thursday.
Commonwealth Attorney Karen Greene Blondell recommended a 10-year sentence in the penitentiary under all counts to run concurrently with each other. Akers will appear in Bell Circuit Court on April 15 for final sentencing.
The sexual acts occurred between January 2009 and January 2011. Akers had sexual contact with the minor, who was less than 12 years old, and engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with someone who was incapable of consent due to their age, according to the plea agreement document.
