PINEVILLE — The Mountain Lions continued their late-season surge on Tuesday as they downed North Laurel 66-56 for their fifth straight win.
The Lions were led by senior center John Simpson who scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in the win. The big fella even hit a 3-pointer to beat the first quarter buzzer and give Pineville a 14-12 lead.
Jacob Skinner added 13 points while guards Seth Jeffrey (9), Cody Collett (8) and Jared Philpot (7) combined for 24 points.
Senior guard Marcus Carson led the Jags with 12 points while Jake Allen and Elijah Jervis added ten apiece.
Pineville extended their lead to 30-23 by halftime and pulled away in the fourth quarter to win by ten.
The Mountain Lions improve to 17-9 overall and will host Williamsburg on Thursday. Pineville will wrap up their regular season on Friday at home against Bell County, the 7 p.m. game has been selected as the WYMT game of the week.
North Laurel (13-14) closes out the regular season on Friday at home against Knox Central.
