HARROGATE, Tenn. — Nick Boegemann, Zach Jacobsen and Asani Igulu have committed to join the Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer program as a part of the 2013 recruiting class, head coach Helio D’Anna recently announced. These three individuals are set to join a Railsplitters’ team that finished 13-4-1 overall and 6-3-0 in the South Atlantic Conference, advancing all the way to the championship match of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Tournament.

Nick Boegemann comes to the LMU soccer program by way of Johnson City, Tennessee and Science Hill High School. Listed as a 6’2” midfielder, Boegemann was a part of the Tennessee ODP as well as the Fusion Football Club Premier. Science Hill head soccer coach Brandon Kind spoke highly of Boegemann, stating, “Nick is a very dynamic player with great knowledge of the game. He is a great teammate and very coachable. He is very technical with a great presence on the pitch.”

While at Lincoln Memorial University, Nick plans on pursuing a degree in business. He is the son of Scott Boegemann and Julie Clouse.

Regarding Boegemann, Lincoln Memorial head soccer coach Helio D’Anna stated, “Nick is very technical and crafty. He has a good frame and potential to do well in college. He has a great left foot and serves the ball well. He should have a quick learning curve and should contribute right away with us.”

Zach Jacobsen is the next addition in the 2013 recruiting class and he is set to join the Railsplitters by way of Frederick, Maryland. Jacobsen, a 6’1” goalkeeper, notched a 0.87 goals against average with 17 career shutouts in his stellar career at Frederick High School. Jacobsen also posted 12 shutouts while competing for FC Frederick. Among his many honors, Jacobsen was the All-Area Defensive Player of the Year, Team MVP, All-Gazette First Team and an All-State Honorable Mention selection. He was also a member of the Maryland ODP. Frederick High head coach J.P. Smith spoke up on the player LMU was receiving, noting, “Zach helped the team to a 10-3-3 record while breaking the all-time shutout record and career wins mark. He is a great leader and consistent shot blocker in big games.”

During his stay at Lincoln Memorial, Zach will pursue a degree in environment studies. He is the son of Tim Jacobsen and Joanne Medalis.

Regarding Jacobsen, LMU coach Helio D’Anna stated, “Zach has very good athleticism and excellent reflexes. He is vocal and organizes the defense well. He is a hard worker and has all the traits to have a solid career.”

Asani Igulu will also be joining the Railsplitters in the fall of 2013 and he is set to arrive in Harrogate, Tennessee from Tucson, Arizona. Igulu, a 5’8” right wing/defender born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, brings a resume of prodigious scoring to the Railsplitters. In four seasons at Palo Verde High School, Igulu tallied 86 goals, marked by 21 during his freshman season which tied a state record. Asani was a two-year team captain and a three-time First Team 4A-II All-Star selection, culminating during his senior season when he led Palo Verde High all the way to the State Championship match. Igulu also boasts two years of college experience, as he notched 12 goals and eight assists in two seasons at Scottsdale Community College. Scottsdale CC head coach Adam Berry spoke about Igulu, stating, “Asani is a great player. He is respectful, always smiling and gets the job done.”

While at Lincoln Memorial, he plans on completing a degree in business. He is the son of Marie Bampamulorin.

Regarding Igulu, LMU coach Helio D’Anna noted, “Asani is very athletic, quick and fast. He is very strong for his size and could surprise a lot of people coming in this year.”

Spring training is well underway for the Lincoln Memorial men’s soccer program, as they are aimed at making another run at the South Atlantic Conference Championship. The 2013 season kicks off on Sept. 5 with a trip to Montevallo, Ala., to duel Eckerd College.
