GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Railsplitters overcame a two-run deficit by pouring on seven runs in the top of the sixth frame to propel their way to a 10-7 victory over the Tusculum College Pioneers in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Sunday. With the win, Lincoln Memorial University (7-11, 5-4 SAC) rebounded from a pair of losses to Tusculum (11-6, 5-4 SAC) on Saturday.

The Railsplitters faced an early 2-0 deficit after Jalen Shuffler led off with a home run in the bottom half of the first and struck again with an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning. That score held through five innings, as Lincoln Memorial was limited to only two hits over that span without recording a single hit until the fourth stanza.

Lincoln Memorial broke out offensively and stormed into the lead by pounding out five hits and seven runs in the top half of the sixth inning. Cody Baker set the stage with a leadoff walk, and Nick Pressley followed his lead with a single in the next at-bat. Curt Fuqua put the first run on the board with an RBI single back up the middle. A pair of fielding errors also aided the Railsplitters’ efforts in that frame, as Josh Coker and Cody Baker reached safely on miscues by the Pioneers which plated two runs. Nick Morabito and Nolan Woody got in on the act with run-scoring hits in that frame, while Nick Pressley capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly out to put the Railsplitters atop the scoreboard, 7-2.

The Pioneers fought back into the game, using an RBI single by Trey Drewerey in the bottom of the sixth and a three-run outburst, aided by a pair of errors by the Railsplitters, in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-6.

Lincoln Memorial put the gam away in the top of the eighth, as Fuqua launched a three-run home run down the left field line to catapult the Railsplitters out to a 10-6 advantage and they held on to win by three.

Patrick Morris (3-0) put in six innings of work with only four earned runs allowed to earn the win. He pitched around seven hits and struck out four. Josh Coker and Ian Creager were strong down the stretch on the bump for the Railsplitters, as those two combined for three innings of work in which they only allowed two hits and one run.

Zeke McGranahan (1-2) was saddled with the loss after surrendering six hits and four earned runs in five and a third innings work.

The Railsplitters will be back in action on today as they welcome Shorter University to Lamar Hennon Field for one nine-inning game set to start at 2 p.m.
