Walker Burton “Burt” Paynter,Jr. age 93, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Heritage Center, Morristown, TN. He was born September 20, 1919 in Lawrenceburg, KY, the son of the late Walker Burton,Sr and Helen Lewis Paynter. He is preceded in death by his sister, Pat Paynter Rush. He was a Major in the U.S. Army, serving in the 12th Armored Division during World War II. After the war, he worked for his family business as President of the Kentucky-Virginia Stone Company until he retired in 1993.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years,Thelma Talbott Paynter; children: Burt (Romana) Paynter, III, Vancouver, WA ; Penny (Don) Rogers, Morristown, TN ; Helen (Jay) Creech, Annapolis, MD ;John (Donna) Paynter, Knoxville, TN ; Mike (Kathy) Paynter, Harrogate, TN ; Joan (Earl) Bandy, Knoxville, TN ;George (Jenny) Paynter, Clinton, TN ;Dennis Paynter, Morristown, TN ; Suzy (Barry) Stoltz, Maryville, TN ; Charlie (Janel Paynter, Danville, KY ; twenty-one grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Rosary will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the St. Julians Catholic Church, Middlesboro, KY. A Life Celebration Mass will be held 12:00 noon with Father Robert Thobias Sabariar,MC officiating. Visitation will follow Mass from 1-4 p.m. at the St. Julians School Gym. Entombment will be at Greenhills Memorial gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to; St. Julians Catholic Church, 118 E. Chester Ave., Middlesboro, KY 40965.
