Paul Thompson, 71, Middlesboro, KY, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born July 23, 1941 at Colmar, KY, the son of the late Henry and Ella Ingram Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Clara Good; his nephew, Chris Thompson; and great niece, Heather Davis.
Paul graduated from Bell County High School in 1961 and Cumberland College in 1970 where he received a BS degree in Sociology. He served in Vietnam during his time in the military. After graduating from Cumberland college, he taught at Lone Jack High School for one year before becoming employed at the Bell County Health Department where he remained employed until his retirement in 1995.
He is survived by his sister, Maggie Eldridge and brother, Freeman (Alvena) Thompson; nieces and nephews: Glenda Vagen, Jeff Eldridge, Darrell (Sandy) Eldridge, Todd (Beth) Thompson, Marsha (Frank) Davis, Karen (Greg) Smith and a host of great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Astor Simpson officiating. Music will be provided by Beth and John Parker and Barbara Asher. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Interment will be in Green Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 1-3 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel.
