Evelyn S. Flowers of Middlesboro, Ky. passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 97 on May 9, 2013. Mrs. Flowers was born in Greenfield, Illinois the daughter of Emine S and Julia S. Suttle. She grew up in Lee County Virginia with her two brothers, James and Emine, Jr.
After graduating from Mary Washington College in Fredricksburg, Va with a degree in Business Education, she moved to Middlesboro where she taught shorthand, typing and business at the Middlesboro High School. She married W. Hobart Reams and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church and served in many capacities of leadership including Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Pulpit Committee, and Girl’s Auxiliary. In her younger years, she was also an active member of the Middlesboro Music Club, the Middlesboro Flower Club and the Middlesboro Little Theater.
After Hobart Reams passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack, she and Dr. Samuel S. Flowers married and were together for 30 wonderful years before his death.
Her parents and brothers are now deceased and she was a loving aunt to her brothers’ children from the Suttle family: Catherine, Amy, James, Richard, Michael and their children.
She is survived by her daughter, Bertha Reams Wirth and husband Bill, their daughter Leigh Dencker , husband, Alex and three great grandchildren, Mason, Amelia Evelina, and William.
A viewing and Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 18th at the Shumate Funeral Home, 2321 Cumberland Ave., Middlesboro, beginning at 11:00 a.m. and followed by burial at the Middlesboro Cemetery. Pallbearers include family and friends.
