The People’s Bank of Ewing, across from Montgomery’s Grocery on Highway 58 in Virginia, was robbed at approximately 2:51 p.m. yesterday.
Law enforcement from multiple agencies were on the scene, including Claiborne Sheriff’s Department, Virginia State Police, Cumberland Gap Tunnel Authority, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Department. Police scrambled to find the suspects, who reportedly fled on foot.
Initial reports indicate that two suspects converged upon the bank, and one of the suspects was armed with an “unknown weapon”.
Law enforcement officials at the scene could not confirm that report. Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons said he did not have enough information at the time to give a statement.
An employee at Montgomery’s Grocery said no one from the store was able see the robber(s). However, she said a customer did spot someone. She was questioned by the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Dept.
