Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons said that his officers are still combing Tennessee and Kentucky looking for their suspect, who is described as a young white male. He said that while employees at The Peoples Bank only saw one robber, his office believes at least another person was involved and has “reason to believe they left in a vehicle.” The robbery occurred at approximately 2:51 p.m., Friday June 12.
Parsons also believes the robber is armed.
“His hand was concealed, but he gave the impression he had a gun,” said Parsons.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the heist. Parsons said the robber “just demanded the money.”
He commended the employees of The Peoples Bank for their handling of the situation.
“The ladies followed procedure and did an excellent job,” said Parsons.
Parsons said he could not disclose the amount of money stolen at this time, but said his office would release more information as soon as possible.
Management at The Peoples Bank Tri-State Office could not be reached for comment.
Law enforcement from multiple agencies are involved in the search, including Claiborne Sheriff’s Department, Virginia State Police, and the Cumberland Gap Tunnel Authority.
