LONDON — The Middlesboro 11-year-old All-Stars survived an elimination game against Burnside Monday to advance in the District 4 tournament.

After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, Middlesboro rallied for four in their half of the inning.

Holden North took over on the mound with one out in the first inning and the bases loaded. He struck out the first batter he faced, allowed a run to score on an error and then covered home on a wild pitch and tagged out a Burnside runner to end the inning.

Middlesboro’s offense clicked from the start. Logan Capps led off with a base hit and went to third as Johnathan Partin doubled.

Capps scored on a delayed steal and Partin came home as North reached on an error.

North stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. One out later Louie Hardin walked and both North and Hardin would evntually score on wild pitches to give Middlesboro a 4-3 lead.

Burnside tied the game in the second, but Middlesboro took control of the game with six runs in their half of the inning.

Caleb Heck started the frame by getting hit by a pitch, Craig Collins singled and Capps walked.

Partin doubled in two runs and North tripled in two more. He scored on a base hit by Daniel Webb and Hardin’s double brought Webb home to make it 10-4.

Both teams scored single runs in the third inning and Burnside cut the lead to 11-7 going into the bottom of the fourth.

Heck and Collins both walked and Capps doubled to score Heck.

Partin walked to load the bases and one out later Webb cleared them with a 3-run double. Joey Foreman would bring in Webb to give Middlesboro a 16-7 advantage.

That would prove to be the final score as Dylan Gibson and Foreman teamed up to shut Burnside down over the final two innings.

Capps, Partin, North, Webb and Hardin all had two hits each to lead the Middlesboro offense.

North was the winning pitcher after working four innings in relief. He allowed four runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking three.

Middlesboro advances to play host North Laurel today at 6 p.m. in another elimination game as the double-elimination tournament continues.
