PINEVILLE — The trial of two individuals accused of robbing a 70-year-old man in his Bell County home and dumping him in a river will likely get another judge.

Newly appointed Bell County Circuit Court Judge Robert Costanzo told the involved parties in court Monday that he will be seeking to recuse himself from the trial of defendants Lora Amburgey, 39, and Joshua Parsons, 27, because of his involvement in the search and rescue of Paul Slusher’s body after it was dumped in the Cumberland River. Slusher was reported missing on January 27.

Amburgey and Parsons, both Pineville residents, allegedly invaded Slusher’s home in Fourmile, robbed him, proceeded to gag and bind him, and then threw him into the Cumberland River.

The couple is also charged with tampering with physical evidence for allegedly disposing of Slusher’s body in the river.

The Circuit Court Clerk’s office could not provide information regarding the pretrial hearing of Amburgey and Parsons when requested.

Sounds like the circuit clerk needs recusing, too. Must have been busy taking care of some family business.
