Deputies catch burglars after home invasion

PINEVILLE —The Bell County Sheriff ‘s Department has arrested two individuals for breaking into a house Wednesday evening in the Brownies Creek community around KY 987.

According to Bell County Sheriff Bruce Bennett, his office received a call at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday about a suspicious vehicle around a residence on KY 987.

On arrival, deputies discovered that a home had been broken into and an undetermined amount of money, including jewelry, old coins, and a firearm, were taken.

Deputies BJ Brock, Doug Jordan, Shane Stewart along with K-9 Deputy Carl Frith and Canto began searching the woods for a male subject after a witness had seen the suspect come out of the creek.

A female suspect in the area was arrested at that time and charged with no operators license. Deputies searched the area until 2 a.m. yesterday morning for the male subject. At around 7 a.m., residents in the area discovered a male subject beside the roadway on KY 987. Chief Deputy David Cornelius and Deputy David Brock arrived on the scene and took 26-year-old Daniel Mayers, aka Daniel Myers, a resident of Corbin, KY into custody and was charged with Burglary lst degree. A warrant was also obtained for female suspect 20-year-old Sara Schmidt of London, KY charging her with Burglary 1st degree. Bond was set at $25,000 cash for Mayer and $10,000 for Schmidt by Bell Circuit Judge Robert Costanzo. According to Sheriff Bennett, most of the stolen property was recovered. The case is under investigation by Deputies BJ Brock and Doug Jordan.
