PINEVILLE — In a brief special-called meeting Monday night, Pineville City Council approved the second reading to increase sewer and water rates by seven percent.

In order to pay back a million dollar-plus federal stimulus loan from the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA), Pineville was ordered by the KIA to raise sewer rates by 70 percent. After combining sewer and water rate increases, using funds from a county industrial park, and correcting a half-million dollar error in the KIA’s budget, Pineville was able to reduce the increase significantly.

“I don’t think any of us particularly like it, but it’s something that’s going to make it a better place,” said Mayor Sherwin Rader at the meeting.

Pineville Police Department (PPD) received a grant of $5,000 from Kentucky’s Highway Safety Grant program. It will start on October 1st and last for a year. The grant is intended to help enforcement during holidays, but can be used whenever the PPD deems acceptable.

Hey Bodidly, You do know the water company charges whatever they feel like anyway. They supposedly read the meters a month in advance of sending out your bill so you can't prove or disprove their readings. And if you call them about your bill, they always say you must have a leak. That's always their excuse. I caught them before putting the wrong reading on the bill because the meter hadn't even gotten that high yet. But they didn't apologize.

Is this rate increase for the whole county or just the city? I live way out of the city limits and got my water bill today and it had raised almost $8.00, I am hooked up on my own septic system it has nothing to do with the city sewage system. And if so does the rate increase drop after the money is paid back to the (KIA)? Because my septic system cost me over $8000.00 when it was installed. So I shouldn't have to pay for a service I don't receive.
