Brown completed the 5K course in 17:10.18 to win the boys’ race by nearly a full minute. Boyle County junior Eric Evans was second with a time of 18:04.48.
As a team the Bobcats placed 5th in their region to qualify for the state meet, finishing just one point behind Casey County. Boyle was first, Knox Central second and West Jessamine third. The top five advance to the state meet along with the top five individuals from teams that didn’t qualify.
Other runners for Bell included eighth-grader Ben Collett who placed 16th with a time of 19:40.98, freshman Nathan Tanner (27th, 20:31.04), senior Anthony Saylor (44th, 21:52.95), freshman Jonathan Howerton (50th, 22:15.19), senior Quintin Fletcher (23:58.00), and sophomore Brandon Manning (70th, 27:29.36).
The boys Class 2A state cross country championship will start at 12:15 p.m. next Saturday at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
In the girls race, the Lady Cats ran to a second place finish. Bell County’s 59 points were 19 behind first place Boyle and 22 ahead of third place Rockcastle County.
West Jessamine and Wayne County rounded out the top five and will also be going to the state meet
Leading the way for Bell was eighth-grader Kelly Brown with a 21:54.55 to take second place individually.
Also running for the Lady Cats were junior Jamie Collins who placed fifth with a time of 22:52.79, sophomore Brittany Collins (7th, 23:30.41), junior Caitlin Gibson (21st, 24:53.73), senior Anna Tanner (30th, 25:35.83), seventh-grader Katherine Collins (44th, 27:03.16), and senior Amanda Manning (56th, 28:41.35).
The girls’ Class 2A state cross country championship will start at 11:30 a.m. next Saturday at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
